Trophies awarded at the Spring Bulb Show:

  1. Herbert Bannister Cup: Best vase of daffodils/narcissi in classes 1-3.

  2. Bob Webb Cup: Best vase of daffodils/narcissi in the show.

  3. Crosby Cook Trophy: Best exhibit of cut spring flowers (class 20).

  4. Winter Trophy: Best miniature arrangement of flowers grown in the exhibitor’s garden (class 26).

  5. Taylor Trophy: Highest number of points in classes 31-36 (Section D).

  6. Martha’s Kettle: Best bake in Section C.

*First prize = 5 points, second prize = 3 points, third prize = 1 point.

  1. A vase of 5 trumpet daffodils, any colour
  2. A vase of 5 large-cupped daffodils, any colour
  3. A vase of 5 small-cupped daffodils, any colour
  4. A vase of 5 multi-headed daffodils, any colour
  5. A vase of 5 cyclamineus (reflexed perianth) daffodils, any colour
  6. A vase of 5 miniature / dwarf daffodils
  7. A vase of 5 daffodils of any other type
  8. A vase of 5 daffodils, mixed types
  9. A vase of 5 Tulips
  10. A pot of Hyacinths, any variety, any number of bulbs
  11. A pot or bowl of Crocuses, any number of varieties
  12. A pot of spring bulbs, one variety, not otherwise in schedule
  13. An Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) in a pot
  14. A pot or bowl of Cyclamen
  15. An Azalea in a pot
  16. A plate of 5 Hellebore heads

Flowers and foliage used in classes 23 to 25 may be bought by the exhibitor

  1. ‘Sea of Green’ – an arrangement using only foliage (max width 75cm/2½ ft.)
  2. A low arrangement for a dinner table centre (max width 45cm/ 1½ ft., max height 15cm/ 6”)
  3. An arrangement titled ‘Spring Sunshine’ (max width 45cm/1½ ft.)
  4. A miniature arrangement ‘Easter in an Eggshell’ using flowers from theexhibitor’s garden (H, D and W between 10cm/4” and 23 cm/9”)

Flowers and foliage used in classes 23 to 25 may be bought by the exhibitor

  1. A ‘seven-plaited’ loaf
  2. A Battenberg cake
  3. A plate of 5 savoury biscuits
  4. A 3 mini trifles in wine glasses
  1. A handmade candle
  2. A crocheted flower, fruit or vegetable
  3. A brooch inspired by succulents, in any medium
  4. A table runner for a Spring gathering
  5. A photograph ‘A Storm Brewing’
  6. A botanical pen and ink drawing

6 years and under at the time of the Spring Show

  1. A pot of tête-a-tête narcissi bulbs grown by you
  2. An edible farm animal (may include cocktail sticks in construction)

7 – 11 years old at the time of the Spring Show

  1. A pot of tête-a-tête Narcissi bulbs grown by you
  2. A painted stone

To submit an entry into the Show:

  1. Choose the classes you wish to enter.
  2. Cut out the relevant form on the back page and complete it with your details and your entries
  3. Put it in an envelope with your entry fee (20p per entry).
  4. Hand it in at Ditchling Post Office by the end of the day on the Wednesday preceding the show.

No late entries will be accepted. All shows take place in Ditchling Village Hall.

Exhibits must be brought to the Hall from 8.00 a.m. on the day of the show and must be staged by 9.30am. The Hall is then closed for the judging, which takes place from 10.00am

The show opens to the public at 2.00pm and closes at 4.00pm. Prizes are announced at 3.30pm, after which exhibits may be removed.
