2023 Autumn Newsletter

We hope you have enjoyed being a member of the DHS during this year. Thank you for making our three Horticultural Shows such a success. Hopefully you were lucky enough to buy a ticket for BBC Question Time’s visit to the Village Hall in February this year and also to visit some of the beautiful Open Gardens held in June in support of the St Peter and St James Hospice.

Our AGM is on November 9th in the Old Meeting House on the Twitten where everyone is welcome.

In January 2024 we will be renewing membership of the Society and celebrating all that is good about gardening, art and cookery across our three Shows being held in March, June and September. We are sure you will be inspired by our entry categories, details of these will be published in the Show schedules. For more information, our website will be updated shortly: www.ditchlinghortsoc.co.uk.

In June ‘24 we are planning a trip to Wisley Gardens. As an affiliated member of the RHS, 55 of our members will be able to visit the gardens free of charge. More details to follow.

On July 7th ‘24 we will be teaming up for the first time with the National Garden Scheme offering an additional Open Gardens Day in Ditchling, also raising funds for charity. Please find details in the NGS Yellow book 2024.

Finally, we are very proud of our history as the oldest village horticultural society in England and in celebration of our bi-centenary last year (1822-2022) we have planted a lovely Wild Service tree on Ditchling Village Green. There will be a bronze plaque placed at the base of the tree to commemorate this milestone.
